Big news, people of the motorcycle realm! The rights to Vincent brand name now rest with Bajaj Auto. Yes, the same British Vincent motorcycles, the same that gave the world the fastest bikes of their time, Vincent Black Shadow and Black Lightning. The Black Shadow once held a land speed record doing 241.9 km/h. Vincent may not have been a name as big as Triumph or BSA or Norton, but it was big in the British motorcycle industry as it frequented the elusive Isle of Man races.
The company was founded by Philip Vincent in 1928.
Production was stopped in 1955 after the company ran into financial troubles. Until recently, the brand was owned by Dave Holder & Family.

This is the second association with a British brand for Bajaj Auto. The Pune-based manufacturer also has a collaboration with Triumph Motorcycle, under which the two will be launching a mid-displacement motorcycle. This will be the smallest displacement Triumph based on the Bonneville design philosophy.
The trademark registration was shared by Instagram page speed_is_expensive, along with a story that is rather really cool stuff. You should like to know.
"In 1953, a gentleman called Shankar Ramanan set the Indian motorcycle speed record on a Black Shadow at the Juhu Beach Airfield near Bombay. Mr Ramanan worked in the UK and visited the Vincent works to order a special bike from the company and took it back to India."
There are no details on what Bajaj Auto plans to do with this name, perhaps revive an iconic brand in the form of mid-displacement classic motorcycles, a segment that currently sees monopoly from Royal Enfield. Time will tell.
